More About Uptown Movie Nights

What is the Uptown Movie Nights?
On the first Friday's of July, August and September, 23nd Street is closed near Main Street. The site is transformed into our "neighborhood livingroom" complete with movies and popcorn. Anyone can bring a lawn chair and enjoy the movie with family, neighbors and friends. This year we will feature entertainment before the show by various local artists. Which movies will be shown?
The movies are family oriented and carry a MPAA rating of PG-13 or less. This year we are featuring:
July 3:  Speed Racer (PG)
August 7:  Muppets Take Manhattan (G)
September 4:  Raising Arizona (PG-13)

This year we can disclose our movie titles!

What will be the music?
We recruit local bands for preshow music and entertainment. This year's music line will feature:
July 3:  Jen, Deborah and Kristen
August 7:  Red Spades
September 4:  The New Jangles

These bands are playing here for free, on a Saturday night! Tips are always welcome.

Where and when are the movies?
The movies are shown in a parking lot located on the corner of 23rd and Main Street in downtown Vancouver. Show time is at 8:45pm. There will be live, local music starting about 7:30 or 8pm, so arrive early to secure your spot.

How much does it cost?
Admission is free. Popcorn, soda and candy are available for $1 each. Additional donations are always welcome and can be made at the concession stand or the information booth.

What if it rains?
If it is raining, or looks like rain is a possibility, check back here by 6pm on the night of the event. If the event is cancelled due to rain, we will post it here.

What should you bring?
The movie is shown in a parking lot, so bring what you need to sit comfortably. Many people bring small lawn chairs or blankets and pillows. You can bring food and drink if you'd like. Popcorn, soda and candy will be available for purchase and there are many small shops nearby where you can purchase pizza, ice cream, etc.

Who puts on the Uptown Movie Nights?
A group of neighbors from the Uptown area organize, promote and produce the event.

Who comes to the show?
The event attracts people from the surrounding neighborhoods as well as folks from all over Vancouver looking for something fun and different to do in their own town. The event usually attracts about 250 to 350 people for each show.

How is it paid for?
Local sponsorship, donations and concession sales pay for the event. Without our generous sponsors, this event could not happen. Please take a moment to view this year's sponsors and remember to support their businesses. To view our sponsors, click here.
